We will be designing and painting the Royal British Legion full size Santa sleigh for the distribution of children's toys - you know what they say many hands make light work, so if you can come along and help that would be great!

The design needs to be simple but with some impact, we don't want to make it too busy a design. If you get a flash of inspiration can you let Meg or Liz know your ideas. Meg has all the pieces at home so she could tell you the exact size if you feel that you could draw something for us, although if you just give us some ideas, Liz could probably draw them up.

We will be working on the slegih every Monday until completion and will also post photos when it is finished.

Journey to "The Venue"

Have I got news for you, on Monday, May 19th we were "having such a good time" painting our WVA that we broke out into song.

The afternoon of, ten of the Sunny Monday painters, took a side trip to "The Venue" to see an exhibition put on by a local art group and to have our dinner at the bar. There were many works of paintings and drawings to see at the exhibition. It is nice to see what other clubs are also doing in the area and the food at the bar was good too!

On our arrival to "The Venue" we also bumped into one of our own club members, Cynthia Horsfield who is teaching painting and craft classes in the new building. What a surprise for us to see Cynthia there!

This day was a nice change and a lovely outing! We even toured the place twice.

Cheers!

Fruit Plate Workshop - 21st April 2008

A group of us took part in a workshop headed by Jackie Burgin to paint a large plate with lots of lovely fruit on it.

Jackie had worked very hard preparing the plates, so that we could get straight into the “main event”. Had this not been done, we would not have progressed quite so well. Thanks Jackie.

Jackie’s idea was to start with the hardest piece on the plate and then work down from there. This proved to be very successful.

The instruction was clear and precise and even the less talented of us made a sterling effort. The colours were wonderful and we had plenty of them with a myriad of shades on our pallets.

Most of us finished the plate, but even those who didn’t were well on their way to finishing.

A very good workshop and, as an added bonus, we had lots of scrumptious cakes, so we not only learned a lot but also gained some calories!

Fruit for Thought

April 21st - Bronzed Fruit
9:45– 4:00
Smithy Moor Community Centre, Stocksbridge

Jackie Burgin has done such a lovely job painting the piece we were keen for her to teach it to us at the Monday Group.
On April 21st, Jackie Burgin will be teaching us a design by Lynne Deptula. This lovely plate of multi fruit includes an apple, pear, plums, a variety of berries and foliage. £15 for the day includes surface. Bring a packed lunch.
"I really enjoyed painting the fruit plate, once I had basecoated the plate and placed on the pattern, I couldn't wait to get on with it.
So on go the leaves, room for artistic licence with these, I find I just always have to go my own way with leaves. then I basecoat the apple and the pear, build up the colour, shade and highlight. the plums are the same technique. Then on with the pink berries gooseberries and blue raspberries. when all fruits and leaves are on, we then bronze the fruit and the leaves and it just lifts it all.
The scrolling on the centre of the plate is a lovely finishing touch to the fruit plate.
look forward to painting it again with friends."
Best regards Jackie

The Fun We Had- March 8th

Photos from the Charity Fun Day!

Charity Fun Day - With Margaret Hammond

Well anybody that didn't attend missed a really good days painting of Reuben Chezza Bear designed by Cheryl Bradshaw but demonstrated by Margaret Hammond. Her preparation & enthusiasm for the project put most of the tutors we've had to visit to shame. She had painted each stage of the project on a huge clip board so everybody could see which stage we were at, her instructions were clear and precise which meant we weren't jumping up and down continually to watch her demonstrate. She came round and made sure that we all knew what we were doing, stopping to give advice and encouragement all the way round the room, she even gave us each a lovely little gift box with mini Easter eggs inside. This really was the icing on the cake so to speak as we were all uplifted by the occasion and appreciation of Margaret's efforts on our behalf. There were 10 of us taking part, all of varying competencies but all having a great deal of fun.... Even the jokes were of a good calibre.

Fantastic day had by all, many many thanks Margaret do it again soon.
